Before
seeing a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for psychotherapy, or geriatric care management with LHICC, caregivers and
potential clients (adult sons and daughters, spouses, those who work nights or are family from out-of-state, and those who
are frail elderly, who are managing disease, are homebound or need a house-call to alleviate depression or fear) often said
they want to feel better, get some rest, “know my options and make the right decision” and be independent, or
feel safe. Prior to their initial consultation, they commonly reported feeling:
Worried about wanting to help the family to prepare for the care of a loved one, but
don’t know how.
Helpless and don’t know where to turn.
Pressured from being caught between a rock and a hard place.
Concerned someone is in denial about what is happening.
Cautious and wanting to avoid the pitfalls of caregiving.
Confused on where to begin the discussion with someone affected by a disease, such as
Alzheimer’s or depression.
Frustrated beyond belief.
